Lo McArver

She/Her

Hi, I’m Lo! Originally from South Carolina and moved to Austin 20yrs ago so kinda sorta a Austinite! I have a 9yr old daughter who keeps me young and humble lol! I try to live my life to the fullest, always looking for the positive-even in struggling times, always finding gratitude in every situation and helping others along the way.

Both my husband and I experienced a life of 20+ years struggling with addiction and homelessness on different levels from couch surfing to hotel rooms to finally camping in a tent the last 2 years of that chapter. Getting pregnant in early 2014 saved us and gave us a glimpse of hope in wanting to change. This was a little over a decade ago when the only resources known were few and far between getting assistance. AMA, to me, is the voice that we didn’t have when we were unhoused. It’s the community to where the loneliness of being alone on the street doesn’t feel so lonely. It’s a glimpse of hope for some, a next meal, dress clothes for an interview, it’s a safe space for anyone to share their struggles and ask for help.
